UNW-DPC at the UN-Water Annual International Zaragoza Conference

UNW-DPC is co-convening with the German Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG) the session on "governments" within the water quality stream at the UN-Water Annual International Zaragoza Conference, "Water and Sustainable Development: From Vision to Action", taking place from 15-17 January 2015.

The UN-Water Initiative on Capacity Development to Support National Drought Management Policies

UNW-DPC coordinates the UN-Water initiative "Capacity Development to Support National Drought Management Policies", a collaboration with the WMO, UNCCD, FAO and CBD. After a successful kick-off in Geneva in March 2013 and regional workshops for Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa in 2013 and 2014,  a final international event is expected in 2015. Regional Drinking Water Loss Reduction and NRW Management Activities

Since its foundation in 2007, UNW-DPC has placed a major focus on activities aimed at reducing water losses and non-revenue water, working primarily at the regional level together with representatives from water utilities and water sector administrations. To date, activities have been conducted in Southeast Europe, Northern Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and most recently for Central Asia.

UNW-DPC's "Capacity Pool" magazines

UNW-DPC produces regular "Capacity Pool" magazines on current topics related to water and capacity development. The 18th edition focuses on "Capacity Development for the Water-Energy Nexus" to coincide with the focus of UN-Water at major events throughout the year. The magazine includes an overview of the links between water and energy and information on activities surrounding the 2014 Day and the release of the 2014 World Water Development Report. The UN-Water Project on Safe Use of Wastewater in Agriculture

UNW-DPC coordinates the UN-Water project on the "Safe Use of Wastewater in Agriculture", a collaborative effort with FAO, WHO, UNEP, UNU-INWEH, ICID and IWMI. The first phase of the project ran from November 2011 to June 2013 and reached nearly 150 participants from 70 countries, assessing and developing countries’ capacities in wastewater use. A second phase of the project is currently in development.

UN-Water Stakeholder Dialogue at Stockholm World Water Week

On 3 September 2014, UN-Water convened the UN-Water Stakeholder Dialogue on “The Water, Energy and Food-Nexus and the Post-2015 Development Agenda” at the 2014 Stockholm World Water Week. Webcast live, the Dialogue was co-convened with the German government and GIZ and implemented by UNW-DPC and UNW-DPAC.

Regional Workshop on Non-revenue Water Management in Central Asia

From 7-9 July 2014, UNW-DPC, together with GWOPA/UN-Habitat and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, organized a workshop on “ Capacity Development, Water Operators’ Partnerships and Financing for Non-revenue Water Management” for Central and South Asia and the Middle East.

Bonding and Bridging in CD Networks

Together with the KWR Watercycle Research Institute, UNW-DPC has produced a new publication which analyses the networks fostered within the multi-year UN-Water project on the " Safe Use of Wastewater in Agriculture ". The full publication is available for download here .

Fifth Regional Drought Workshop (for Near East and North Africa)

After a successful kick-off in Geneva and a series of regional workshops for Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Eastern/Southern Africa in 2013 and 2014, WMO, UNCCD, FAO, CBD and UNW-DPC organized a fifth regional workshop for Near East and North African countries in Cairo, Egypt from 17-20 November 2014, on "Capacity Development to Support National Drought Management Policies".

UNW-DPC at the International Zaragoza Conference

UNW-DPC will be actively present and involved in several sessions at the UN-Water Annual International Zaragoza Conference in Zaragoza, Spain, from 15-17 January 2015. The topic of the conference, which will feed into the topic of the 2015 World Water Day, is "Water and Sustainable Development: From Vision to Action."

UNW-DPC at the Dresden Nexus Conference

Together with GIZ and UNU-FLORES, UNW-DPC will be organizing a session on "Urbanization as an opportunity: Local solutions and urban/peri-urban interlinkages for integrated resource-efficiency in metropolitan regions" at the Dresden Nexus Conference for Water, Soil and Waste from 25-27 March 2015.

IFAT 2014 Film

UN-Water was present at IFAT 2014 in Munich, Germany from 5-9 May, with UNW-DPC coordinating the participation of 10 UN- Water Members, Partners and Programmes in a pavilion and seminar on the topic of “Water and Energy”. It has produced a short film about the event. 

UNW-DPC magazine on "Water and Energy"
